Devising: Edgar Allan Poe’s Gruesome Gallery of Grotesquerie
with Blake McCarty
In preparation for SDJT's world premiere production of Edgar Allan Poe's Gruesome Gallery of Grotesquerie, join director Blake McCarty for this unique series of devising workshops. Inspired by the macabre poetry and prose of Edgar Allan Poe, teen artists will have the opportunity to explore playwriting, improvisation, puppetry, songwriting, and design while creating material that will be used in the mainstage production later in the season. Students have no obligation to audition or participate in the show but will play a vital role in its development while expanding their skills and artistry.
Homeschool Sr.: Create-a-Play
Use your imagination to bring an original play to life! Guided by the Teaching Artist, students will create and perform in several plays over the course of the session, and present their favorite to a live audience on the last day of class.
Want to learn how to stand out in an audition room or onstage? Get into the nuts and bolts of acting by learning how to analyze a scene for beats and insight into your character. Students will become “smart actors” through scene work while deepening their knowledge of blocking notation and theatrical terminology. This class is excellent preparation for students interested in auditioning for stage plays, and we welcome all levels of experience.
11 O'Clock Numbers
Who doesn’t love a show-stopping number? Study some of Broadway's biggest hits while honing your vocal technique. Learn the correct way to belt a song, or how to sing as some of the most memorable musical theatre characters. Singers will present their showstoppers during the final class.
