In preparation for SDJT's world premiere production of Edgar Allan Poe's Gruesome Gallery of Grotesquerie, join director Blake McCarty for this unique series of devising workshops. Inspired by the macabre poetry and prose of Edgar Allan Poe, teen artists will have the opportunity to explore playwriting, improvisation, puppetry, songwriting, and design while creating material that will be used in the mainstage production later in the season. Students have no obligation to audition or participate in the show but will play a vital role in its development while expanding their skills and artistry.

Want to learn how to stand out in an audition room or onstage? Get into the nuts and bolts of acting by learning how to analyze a scene for beats and insight into your character. Students will become “smart actors” through scene work while deepening their knowledge of blocking notation and theatrical terminology. This class is excellent preparation for students interested in auditioning for stage plays, and we welcome all levels of experience.

Pirates and Princesses

Swashbuckling adventures on the high seas, magical princesses and heroes who save the day! Celebrate Junior Theatre’s upcoming production of How I Became a Pirate as we portray dynamic characters from exciting stories! Children will build skills in speech and language, movement and teamwork, all while gaining confidence onstage and off.

Stories on Stage: Roald Dahl

Pairing songs and scenes together, this class gives students the opportunity to delve further into a variety of shows and characters. Learn the context of popular musical theatre numbers by incorporating the scenes that lead into songs. A great choice for students who are interested in developing their musical theatre skills.
