Song Cycle Creation

Ever wanted to try your hand at writing a musical? In this unique storytelling-based offering, students will create original monologues and transform them into musical compositions. Students will collaborate with their peers and Teaching Artists Jason Blitman (Director of JT’s Spongebob and The Lightning Thief) and Eliza Vedar (Music Director of JT’s Spongebob) to create and workshop an original Song Cycle - a series of songs centered around a unifying theme. Join us in the spring for our Song Cycle Performance class, where these original pieces will be performed!

Character Lab

Are you serious about taking your acting skills to the next level? Creating unique and believable characters is a vital skill for any aspiring actor. Students will be challenged to create a variety of characters that range in age, type, personality and background. Use the actor’s tools (body, voice and imagination) to create fun and quirky characters to share with friends and family on the last day of class!

Musicals Gone Wild

Grades: 4-6

Explore the wild world of musical theatre and all the creatures who inhabit it! Build and refine a variety of musical theatre dance and acting skills via hit musicals like The Lion King, Seussical, Cats and more! Students will learn basic musical theatre combinations to ready them for dance auditions, and prepare numbers to share with friends and family on the final day of class.

Teenage Musical Takeover

Being a teenager isn’t easy, so why not blow off some steam while dancing to today’s Broadway hits, all centered around the teenage experience? Express yourself through the music of Be More Chill, Jagged Little Pill, Dear Evan Hansen and more, while gaining strength and improving technique. This fast-paced class is a must for any teen looking to shine at their next dance call.

Audition Workshop Jr.

Grades: 4-6

Calling all brave actors who are ready to get their monologues in shape! Through scene work and acting exercises students in this class will tone up their voices, bodies, minds and improv skills getting them ready to tackle any audition or play that comes their way. Students will work on audition techniques in a small group setting throughout the session and present their completed monologues on the final day of class for their “audition.”

Advanced Sewing Clinic

Grades: 7-12

Aspiring costume designers will refine intermediate sewing skills and tap into your own creative designing imagination! Designer and costume loft manager Tammy Molenaar will guide young artists through the steps of costume design and construction in this experiential workshop-- from fabric selection, to reading patterns, to creating your own costume piece. A great choice for teens who love to crew JT shows and want to learn more about theatrical design.

 

Some prior hand and machine sewing experience is required. Students who own a sewing machine are encouraged to bring their own.
